The United States has announced that during its presidency of the G20 group in 2026, it will invite Poland to its ranks as a new member. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this on Wednesday. The G20 summit is to be held in Miami, informs the correspondent of TASR in Warsaw.
“Poland, a nation once trapped behind the Iron Curtain but now among the world’s 20 largest economies, will join us to take its rightful place in the G20,” Rubio said. According to him, it is the country is an example of a successful transformation from a centrally planned economy to a market economy, and its partnership with the United States represents a model for other countries.
Poland’s involvement in the G20 would, according to the daily Rzeczpospolita marked Warsaw’s biggest institutional shift on the international stage since joining the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 1996. Poland’s participation in the G20 summit in Miami was already discussed by President Karol Nawrocki with the American head of state Donald Trump during his visit to the USA in September.
In the same month, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland’s GDP had exceeded one trillion dollars, making the country one of the 20 largest economies in the world. According to the International Monetary Fund, Poland’s GDP will reach $1.04 trillion in 2025. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski also discussed the invitation to the G20 with Rubio, who confirmed that Washington supported Poland’s ambitions.
