The Irish police are investigating the drone incident at the arrival of Ukrainian President Zelensky, while they have not yet confirmed the suspicion of Russia.
Irish police said on Friday they were investigating an incident involving several unidentified drones during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s arrival in Dublin earlier this week. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the AFP agency and the Irish public television RTE.
The Special Detective Unit (SDU) will work with the Irish Defense Forces and international security partners in this case, police said.
Drones on landing
Zelensky’s plane landed in Dublin on Monday shortly before 23:00 local time (Tuesday 00:00 CET). Around the same time, the crew of the Irish Naval Service ship William Butler Yeats reported sighting several unidentified drones north of Dublin.
Earlier this week, the Ukrainian president visited Ireland for the first time in his office. In Dublin, he held bilateral negotiations with Prime Minister Micheál Martin and met with Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris and Defense Minister Helen McEntee.
Security and investigation
Martin was informed about the drone incident. Speaking at an event in Wales on Friday, he said a National Security Council meeting would be held this month to discuss the incident. When asked if Russia could be behind the incident, he replied that until he had more information about it, he would not comment on it.
