The senator said that he was informed of the diagnosis in March and that he has been undergoing treatment with oral chemotherapy
The senator (Podemos-MG), who chairs the (Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), made public that he was diagnosed with a tumor located in the external part of the stomach and informed that he will undergo surgery next Saturday (6).
Even though he received the recommendation for surgery around three months ago, as reported this Thursday (4), Viana chose to remain focused on leading the commission responsible for investigating a billion-dollar scheme of undue discounts on retirement and pensions.
“A few months ago I was diagnosed with a tumor located on the outside of my stomach. Ninety days ago the doctors recommended that I immediately undergo surgery, but I asked God to sustain me until today, until this last session of the year to fully fulfill the mission entrusted to me. And God sustained me”, he said.
The commission has carried out a series of investigations and votes. This week, calls were approved, some requests were rejected and certain confidentiality was lifted.
“Medicine told me to stop. Duty and commitment told me: continue”, he further stated. “If God allows, I will come back and I will come back even stronger, because as long as there is a single retired person unfairly treated in this country, I will be in this fight”, he continued.
The senator said that he was informed of the diagnosis in March and that he has been undergoing treatment with oral chemotherapy. He added that the doctors wanted the surgery to take place in September, which would prevent him from presiding over the CPMI. “I have been following up, the cancer is well reduced, it has not progressed and there is no other organ involved,” he said.
