Drivers can now easily check whether their car has a campaign “recall” pending
The new online platform launched by ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal, in collaboration with the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) and with the support of the General Directorate of Consumer Affairs, aims to overcome an old flaw: many vehicles called into the workshop by brands never get repaired.
According to almost every day, recall actions are issued by manufacturers — generally related to safety or environmental protection issues — but owners are not always successfully contacted, as the process often depends on outdated addresses at the Motor Vehicle Registry Office or letters that never arrive to the recipient. Result: vehicles with defects that could have been corrected free of charge continue to circulate on the roads.
The accessible platform was presented this Thursday, December 4th: just enter the registration number (or vehicle identification number) and you will instantly find out if there is an active campaign on your vehicle for the purpose of periodic inspection.
If there is a “recall” to be carried out, the owner is advised to contact a brand dealer, where the repair will be carried out at no cost.
