The leakage of an unknown substance into the air on Thursday (December 4) in Žilina was taken over by an environmental police investigator of the National Central Office of Special Types of Crime of the Presidium of the Police Force (PZ) as suspicion of unauthorized waste management. This was confirmed for TASR on Friday by the spokesman of the Presidium of the PZ Roman Hájek.

On Thursday, from the early hours of the morning, residents of the center of Žilina smelled an unpleasant smell, for which the emergency services had to evacuate and close several streets for a certain time. The city of Žilina declared a state of emergency in connection with the situation. Firefighters reported that three people were injured as a result of the leak of an unknown substance. According to the municipality, the results of measurements and controls ruled out threats to the health, life and property of residents.
