Moraes says Marielle case is ready for trial – 12/04/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), asked this Thursday (4) for a date for the trial of the case of the execution of the councilor (). It is up to , president of the First Panel, to define the day for analyzing the process.

The judge (no party-RJ), the counselor of the TCE (State Court of Auditors) of Rio, the delegate Rivaldo Barbosa, the major Ronald Paulo Pereira and the retired military police officer Robson Calixto Fonseca, known as Peixe, will be judged.

They are accused of ordering the murder of the councilor and driver Anderson Gomes.

Chiquinho, Domingos and Rivaldo were arrested in March 2024.

Chiquinho has been under house arrest since April 11 for health reasons. The opinion to revoke his mandate was approved last August.

His medical records indicate that he has chronic coronary artery disease, with obstruction of two arteries and stent implantation, including the implantation of a new stent carried out in February this year, and that in other coronary arteries there are lesions that can evolve into occlusions, in addition to the diagnosis of type II diabetes; signs of bilateral parenchymal nephropathy; and systemic arterial hypertension.

On May 13, the (Attorney General’s Office) presented the STF with the final arguments in which it requests the conviction of those involved in the case. In the document, the deputy attorney general of the Republic, Hindenburgo Chateaubriand, added excerpts from statements heard during the investigation of the case to reinforce the prosecution’s theses.

Among them, Chateaubriand states that some statements prove the Brazão brothers’ land-grabbing activities in Rio and criminal practice to achieve their objectives. One of the testimonies cited is that of Orlando Oliveira de Araújo, known as Orlando Curicica.

“The crime was committed with the promise of a reward and for a base reason, as the agents aimed to maintain the profitability of their illicit businesses”, says the request.

The Brazão brothers are accused of ordering the death of the councilor after an accumulation of political differences between them and the PSOL. Marielle, according to investigations, acted to hinder the exploitation of the family’s illegal land.

Chief Rivaldo, at the time head of the police, is accused of having helped plan the crime, as well as two other military police officers.

Peixe is accused of having participated in the delivery and return of the weapon used in the crime, according to the plea bargain of former PM Ronnie Lessa, a confessed defendant in the councilor’s death. He worked as an advisor to Domingos Brazão.
