Carlos Viana stated that he will undergo a surgery recommended 90 days ago on Saturday (Dec 6).
The senator (Podemos-MG), president of , stated that he had been diagnosed with a tumor on the outside of his stomach. The statement was made at the commission’s last session of the year, held on Thursday (Dec 4, 2025).
“Before I close, I need to share something personal with everyone. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with a tumor located on the outside of my stomach.”announced the senator. Viana said he will undergo surgery on Saturday (Dec 6) to remove the tumor. He claimed to have faced the disease “with silence, with faith, with absolute focus on work” of the commission.

Viana added that, 90 days ago, doctors recommended that he “go to surgery immediately.” The congressman claimed to have “asked God” to “sustain him until today, until this last session of the year”, so that he could “fulfill the mission” that was entrusted to him. “And God sustained me”he stated.
In August, the senator was president of the CPMI, which investigates illegal discounts on INSS (National Social Security Institute) pensions made by entities without authorization from the beneficiaries.
His election represented a defeat for the (PT) government, which was trying to place the nominee of (União Brasil-AP), (PSD-AM), in charge of the commission’s work. Viana was elected by 17 votes to Aziz’s 14.
“The word says in Isaiah 41:10: ‘Fear not, for I am with you’. And that is how I walked these 90 days. Medicine told me to stop. Duty and commitment told me: ‘continue’. And God gave me that word. I am with you”said the senator on Thursday (Dec 4).
Viana ended her speech talking about the surgery: “I enter in peace, strengthened and I say to the country: if God allows me, I will come back even stronger, gentlemen, because as long as there is a single retired person unfairly treated in this country, I will be in this fight”.
The senator then said that the session represented the end of the “last chapter of this year, but not of the fight”. He stated: “At the beginning of next year, we will return with even more determination. This CPMI is not mine, it is ours, it is the truth. And when it arrives, the truth is what governs. Thank you very much and may God bless Brazil”.
At the end of his speech, Viana received a standing ovation from the congressmen present at the session.
