O Climate warned, this Thursday (4), of the risk of heavy rain and lasting in five states in Brazil between today (4) and Sunday (7). Espírito Santo, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Mato Grosso will suffer from an episode of ZCAS (South Atlantic Convergence Zone).
ZCAS is known for organizing a persistent cloudy corridorwhich acts for consecutive days and favors the formation of heavy clouds.
The volume of rain could exceed 100 millimeters throughout the period, especially between Thursday and Saturday.
A South Atlantic Convergence Zone is a meteorological system that combines a semi-stationary cold front on the coast and the configuration of winds at medium and high levels of the atmosphere.
Whenever the system establishes itself, the chance for heavy rain and the risk of disruption increases.
Climatempo warns that ZCAS’s continued action poses a high risk of:
- Rapid flooding in urban centers;
- Landslides, especially on slopes in MG, ES and BA;
- Sudden rise in streams and rivers, which can lead to localized overflows;
- Difficulties in traveling, both in urban areas and on highways.
With the system persisting until Sunday (7), the risk remains high throughout the entire period, especially in more vulnerable regions.
*Under AR supervision.
