The Czech police are investigating the case of the death of two newborns in the maternity hospital in Litoměřice in the Ústánské region at the end of November. In the Midwifery Center (CPA) there, doctors resuscitated four newborns within 24 hours, two of whom died. CNN Prima News drew attention to the case on Friday, reports TASR in Prague.

“We can confirm that these unfortunate and extraordinary events took place at our CPA in Litoměřice. We are deeply affected by the whole situation and a thorough investigation is our highest priority. An internal and external analysis of all circumstances and procedures is currently underway in order to find out the exact causes that led to the events.” the station quoted Miloslava Kučerová, spokeswoman for the Krajská zdravotná company, under which the hospital falls, on its website.
The management of the hospital temporarily put the head of the delivery room and the doctor who was on duty that day off duty. According to Kučerová, this is a standard preventive measure until everything is investigated. She added that the events are dealt with by the company’s internal expert committee of the Regional Health Institute and an external expert institute. According to her, the department continues to operate without restrictions.
Responding to the CNN Prima News report, police on the X social network said: “Based on information from the media, we are dealing with the death of two newborns. We are currently investigating all the circumstances and will not provide further information at this time.”
