Slovak President Peter Pellegrini met Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni at the headquarters of the Italian Government Office on Friday. They discussed world and European events. Pellegrini singled out the Italian Prime Minister, according to him, she is becoming a leader and Italy is starting to play a more serious role in European politics under her leadership. This follows from the statement of the head of state at the Friday briefing.
Among other things, the topic of the meeting was the current situation in Ukraine and the freezing of Russian assets. “We talked about how, if and when to use or not use the frozen assets so that Europe does not lose any negotiating position,” he pointed out.
Coalition with allies
The Slovak president highlighted the positions of the Italian prime minister. “I have been saying this for a very long time and I often publicly present that I agree with the position of the prime minister in many things and attitudes,” he added. He appreciated that the Slovak Republic and Italy currently form a certain coalition. He pointed out that in Italy we find an ally, for example, in the attitude towards the Green Deal or the new European system of trading emission quotas ETS2. According to Pellegrini, Friday’s negotiations strengthened relations between the two countries.
