The tension surrounding the crypto-affair in Poland continues, Prime Minister Tusk revealed Russian traces in the secret negotiations

Prime Minister Tusk accused Russia of using cryptocurrencies to sabotage the EU. The Polish Sejm is debating overriding the veto of the law to tighten the regulation of cryptocurrencies.

In the Polish Sejm, the secret part of the negotiations ended on Friday morning, during which Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented information on state security. According to PAP agency sources, he allegedly spoke about Russian traces in the so-called crypto affairs. The Sejm continues negotiations on the law on cryptocurrencies, which President Karol Nawrocki vetoed. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.

Purpose of the Cryptocurrency Act

The goal of the new law was to tighten supervision of the cryptocurrency market and increase investor protection. The prime minister criticized the president’s veto earlier and pointed to the security aspects of the amendment. According to him, Russia uses cryptocurrencies to finance sabotage in EU countries. He also pointed to an ongoing investigation involving a major cryptocurrency firm.

Breaking the veto of the president

Deputies are supposed to continue the negotiations in open mode and focus on the presidential sentence of the law on cryptocurrencies. State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Cezary Tomczyk also called for its breakthrough. “We know how big a threat different financial flows can be in terms of different Russian footprints,” Tomczyk said, adding that the state must have the tools to control them.
