Representatives from trade unions met this Wednesday (3) with the minister (Labour) and debated the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) proposed by the deputy (PSOL-SP).
The parliamentarian suggested limiting the weekly working day to 40 hours, compared to the current 44 hours. This reduction would be gradual. The proposed model allows for six consecutive working days, but provides that the working hours on Saturdays and Sundays are limited to 6 hours per day, with provision for paying an additional 100% of the normal hourly rate for overtime.
The meeting with the minister was attended by Força Sindical, CUT, UGT, CTB, Nova Central and CSB. Representative Daiana Santos (PC do B-RS) was also present.
Sérgio Luiz Leite, from Força Sindical, states that the union centrals’ assessment of reducing the working day to 40 hours is good.
“I think it’s a positive point that you have a sign to reduce working hours. But we want to discuss the issue of scale and perhaps a solution would be to have at least two consecutive weekly days off”, he states. “But I’ll say it again, in Gastão’s report he doesn’t talk about ending with the 6×1 scale.”
Another point of the opinion criticized by the union leader is the possibility of free direct contractual agreement between employee and employer, including for hours worked. “This is completely rejected by us, because it does not value collective bargaining and creates an exacerbated power of the employer vis-à-vis the employee in relation to stipulating the working hours and scale”, says Leite.
