In the video call conversation were several leaders from European countries: Emmanuel Macron (France), Friedrich Merz (Germany), Donald Tusk (Poland), Giorgia Meloni (Italy), Mette Frederiksen (Denmark), Jonas Gahr Store (Norway) and Alexander Stubb (Finland).
The meeting also included other top leaders: Mark Rutte (NATO), Ursula von der Leyen (European Commission) and António Costa (European Council).
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, was also present. And he was a central figure in this discussion, held last Monday.

Macron even said that there is a risk that US betrays Ukraine in negotiations: “There is a possibility that the United States will betray Ukraine on the territorial issue, without clarity regarding security guarantees.”
Merz supported his French counterpart: “The US is doing games with you (Ukraine) and with us.” And he told Zelenskyy that he should adopt a “extreme care” in the coming days.”
“We must not leave Ukraine and Zelenskyy alone with these people“, added Finnish Stubb. “I agree with Alexander: we must protect Zelenskyy”, added Rutte, NATO leader.
In response, the President of Ukraine agreed and said that there is a “immense danger” in negotiations mediated by the White House.
The French Government denied Macron’s statements. “The president did not use those words,” he said, in response to SPIEGEL. The German Government declined to comment.
On Wednesday, the US president commented that the meeting between envoy Steve Witkoff and Vladimir Putin was positive: “Putin would like to end the war. We’ll see if that happens,” said Donald Trump.
