The life of Saint Nicholas (Nicholas of Myra) is shrouded in many legends, but it is known that he was a helper of the poor and sick and also a protector of children, which reminds us of today’s custom that it is the smallest and youngest who are presented with gifts and sweets on December 6.
The holiday of December 6th is associated with the custom, according to which Nicholas walks around the village or town with an entourage, usually the devil and an angel, bringing gifts to children. Old legends are also associated with December 6, for example “On St. Nicholas, the winter is already all ours”.
