Director of Mother Teresa biopic: “You’re either a witch or a slut”

Teresa – A life between light and shadow is pulsatingly staged. Full of energy, North Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska portrays Mother Teresa before she became a saint in her biggest film to date. In 1948, the Albanian woman from Skopje was head of the order of the Loreto Sisters in Calcutta. She spends her free time helping the poor and needy. She would like to dedicate her life to this task with her own order. She applied to the Vatican for approval. She waits for seven days for the longed-for letter, seven days full of temptations and tests of faith. With the symbolistic images, the expressive faces and the punk rock soundtrack, a little madness has crept into this unruly biopic about one of the greatest icons of the last century. Director Mitevska explains what drove her to do this.
