The Metropolitan Police of London has arrested this Saturday four activists who have thrown food at the display case of the imperial crown of the State, one of the jewels of the british monarchy that are displayed in the Tower of London. The monument, visited daily by hundreds of tourists, has been partially closed after the incident, according to the BBC.
The security forces of the British capital received a call shortly before 10:00 local time (11:00 in Spain) after four people stamped a apple pie and sprinkle with custard the crystals that protect the crown, one of the main ones of the British monarchy that is used in coronations and in the opening ceremonies of Parliament.
According to videos posted on X, the activists belong to a group that calls itself ‘Take Back Power’ (Regains power) and after throwing the food they have declared that “democracy has collapsed”making a play on ‘crumble’, which in English means ‘collapse’ but is also used to designate a type of cake with a crispy crust.
“The UK is broken. We have come here, where the crown jewels are, to take back power. Join us,” they continued, before concluding: “There are homeless people dying in the streets, this is the most dangerous season of the year for them. AND we have the rich accumulating wealth. This is disgusting. Sign up for the action!”
The group, which is defined as nonviolent civil resistancehas claimed to have carried out the action to demand the United Kingdom Government to establish a permanent citizen assembly with the power of “tax extreme wealth and fix” the country.
