German Chancellor Merz on a difficult mission in Israel

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has barely completed the difficult vote on the controversial pension package in the Bundestag when he is already facing the next delicate mission: he is traveling to the Middle East region this weekend. On Saturday Merz arrives in Jordan and meets King Abdullah II there. Merz then travels on to Israel, where he will be received by President Yitzhak Herzog on Saturday evening. On Sunday, Merz will meet his actual counterpart, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
