Negotiations in Florida

The special envoy of the US president, Steve Witkoff, and the son-in-law of the head of the White House, Jared Kushner, are also meeting with the chief Ukrainian negotiator, Rustem Umerov, and the chief of the general staff of the Ukrainian forces, Andriy Hnatov, in Florida on Saturday.

A statement released by the US State Department overnight on Saturday said both sides of the talks agreed that real progress towards any peace deal “depends on Russia’s willingness to demonstrate genuine interest in a lasting peace, including steps to de-escalate and stop the killing”.
