Leader of na, (RJ), compares the minister, of, to Marshal Henrique Lott, who went down in history for having prevented an attempted coup in 1955, preserving Brazilian democracy.

“Minister Gilmar Mendes’ attitude reminded me of what Marshal Lott had when he anticipated a threat to democracy. What happened now was an anticipation of right-wing movements against the STF, such as the increase in the number of members of the court and a series of measures that would violate important clauses of our Constitution”, stated the PT leader.

He refers to the injunction granted by Gilmar that makes it the exclusive prerogative of the Attorney General’s Office to present a request for impeachment of STF ministers.

who plan to invest in the election next year, precisely to put pressure on the Judiciary.

Lott, who died in 1984 at the age of 89, anticipated threats from the military to prevent the inauguration with what was characterized at the time as a counter-coup. He overthrew the then president, Carlos Luz, who was in league with the coup plotters, ensuring constitutional order and JK’s inauguration.

Gilmar’s measure generated a reaction in the Senate, which saw its prerogatives to initiate impeachment proceedings emptied.

For the PT leader, the minister’s decision was important to avoid weakening the Judiciary. “I recommend that senators read the book How Democracies Die [de Daniel Ziblatt e Steven Levitsky]”, he declared.
