Vienna – A new assessment by the EU Asylum Agency (EUAA) could make deportations to Syria easier. At least that’s what the Interior Ministry assumes. The paper published this week assesses the situation in the capital Damascus as safe. In addition, opponents of the former ruler Bashar al-Assad no longer have to fear persecution. Of course, this does not apply to ethnic groups such as Alawites and Christians. Persecution because of sexual orientation also remains.
