Leo XIV’s statements, released by the Vatican, are some of the clearest to date about the thoughts and opinions of the American Pope, elected in May to lead the Catholic Church after the death of Pope Francis
Pope Leo XIV said this Saturday that the Vatican will not stand idly by in the face of human rights violations around the world, in an audience with the new ambassadors to the Holy See.
“I wish to reaffirm that the Holy See will not stand idly by in the face of serious inequalities, injustices and violations of fundamental human rights in our increasingly fragmented and conflict-prone international community”, declared Leo XIV to the 13 new ambassadors.
According to the France-Presse agency, Leo XIV’s statements, released by the Vatican, are some of the clearest to date about the thoughts and opinions of the American Pope, elected in May to lead the Catholic Church after the death of Pope Francis.

By highlighting inequalities, Leo XIV continues the priorities of his predecessor, Francis, who defended the rights of migrants and other vulnerable groups during his pontificate.
The Pope, who spent almost 20 years as a missionary in Peru, denounced the treatment of migrants in the United States under the administration of President Donald Trump, calling it “extremely disrespectful” last month.
The new ambassadors accredited today and received in audience at the Vatican come from Uzbekistan, Moldova, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Liberia, Thailand, Lesotho, South Africa, Fiji, Micronesia, Latvia and Finland.
