Pope Leo XIV. says clearly: The Vatican will not be silent in the face of human rights violations in a global context

Pope Leo XIV. he declared that the Vatican would not stand by for violations of human rights and called for international cooperation to build a more just world.

Pope Leo XIV. on Saturday, in an address to the new ambassadors to the Holy See, he declared that the Vatican will not “silently watch” the violation of human rights in the world. This was reported by the AFP agency, writes TASR.

  • Pope Leo XIV. spoke about the violation of human rights.
  • He emphasized the importance of peace as an active gift from the heart.
  • He used examples of the poor when discussing global instability.
  • He emphasized the need for international cooperation for a fairer world.
  • He criticized the disrespectful treatment of migrants in the US.

According to the Pope, the diplomacy of the Holy See is “consistently aimed at serving the good of humanity, especially by appealing to the conscience and listening attentively to the voices of those who are poor, in vulnerable situations or pushed to the margins of society”.

Pope’s emphasis on peace

The Pope emphasized that peace “is not just the absence of conflict, but an active and demanding gift… built in the heart and from the heart.” It requires a commitment to give up “pride and vindictiveness” and resist “the temptation to use words as weapons.” In his words, this vision becomes more urgent at a time “when geopolitical tensions and fragmentation continue to erode the bonds of the human family.”

The Pope also pointed to the consequences of global instability and noted that “the poor and marginalized suffer the most from these shocks.”

Call for international cooperation

Echoing the words of his predecessor, Pope Francis, Leo reminded diplomats that “the measure of a society’s greatness is the way it treats those who are the weakest.”

The Pope therefore called on the new ambassadors to join the Holy See and promote multilateral cooperation “at a time when it is so much needed.” He expressed the hope that together in this way they would help the international community “lay the foundations of a more just, fraternal and peaceful world.”

Lev – who spent nearly 20 years as a missionary in Peru – criticized the treatment of migrants in his native United States under President Donald Trump in November, calling it “extremely disrespectful”.
