President of the City Council of , Ricardo Teixeira () formally received the support of nine parties and consolidated a large advantage in his dispute for re-election.
His opponent, (União), chosen by União Brasil, has his candidacy hanging by a thread. His allies believe that he must withdraw it soon so as not to suffer a crushing defeat on December 15, the date of the election.
On Thursday (4), the decision to support Teixeira after the mayor (), coordinator of the re-election of the current president, consolidated his advantage in the dispute. The PT has eight councilors, the largest group in the House.
Subsequently, MDB, PL, Republicans, PP, PSD, Podemos, PV and Novo published notes in support of Teixeira. Councilor João Jorge (MDB), who is working for Teixeira’s re-election, received 43 favorable votes out of a possible 55.
The remaining votes are mostly concentrated in PSOL, whose councilors also do not admit the possibility of voting for Rubinho, and União Brasil.

The municipal leadership of União Brasil, commanded by former president of the Chamber Milton Leite, is pressing for compliance with an agreement signed by the party’s councilors last year, including by Teixeira himself, according to which members of the party’s bench would take turns in command of the Chamber on a rotating basis. Leite is the main guarantor of Rubinho’s candidacy.
“We are not claiming victory before the time, but we do see a consolidated advantage. The mayor’s support was something that brought a lot of consistency to Ricardo Teixeira’s candidacy. And, with all due respect to Rubinho, the base’s companions do not want to vote for those who abandoned the ship in times of difficulty”, says João Jorge.
He refers to Rubinho’s decision to support (PRTB) in the midst of last year’s municipal election. Since then, the councilor began to be seen as disaffected by Nunes, who defined his nomination for the presidency as one from União Brasil.
