Regional mediators, Qatar, the USA and Egypt, contributed to making the ‘truce’ in the Palestinian territory viable, which came into force on October 10 and largely ended two years of war.
The almost two-month truce in will not be complete until the “total withdrawal” of of Palestinian territory, said this Saturday (6) the Prime Minister of mediator in the process.
“We are at a critical moment (…) A truce cannot be completed unless there is a total withdrawal of Israeli forces and stability is restored in Gaza,” declared Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani at the Doha Forum, a diplomatic conference held annually in the capital of this Gulf State.
Qatar, along with the United States and Egypt, contributed to reaching the truce in Gaza, which came into force on October 10 and largely ended two years of fighting between Israel and .
In a second phase of the agreement, which has not yet begun, Israel must withdraw from its positions in Palestinian territory. The creation of an interim authority and the deployment of an international stabilization force (ISF) are also planned.
However, Arab and Muslim countries have shown reluctance to participate in this force, which could have to fight with Palestinian militiamen.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who also participated in the forum, stated that talks about this deployment remain ongoing and there are still issues to be resolved regarding its command structure and the countries that would provide personnel.
Under the 20-point plan initially presented by Washington, Hamas must hand over its weapons, but the group has repeatedly rejected it. Al Thani declared that Qatar and the other guarantors of the truce, Türkiye, Egypt and the United States, “are working together to advance the next phase” of the agreement.
