Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed his former chief of staff Andriy Yermak from the National Security Council in connection with a large-scale corruption investigation that shook Kyiv. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
According to two presidential decrees published on Friday, Jermak is no longer even a member of the Supreme Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A longtime ally of the president stepped down as chief of staff last week after anti-corruption authorities searched his office. At present, it is still not clear whether these raids were connected to a corruption scandal involving the acceptance of bribes in the energy sector.
Jermak headed the presidential office since February 2020 and was considered the second most influential man in Ukraine. Originally, he was also one of the main negotiators of Kyiv in negotiations to end the war. The position is currently held by the former Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov.
