This addition completely changes the traditional Christmas Eve compote. Even grandma admits he's the best

Since I added citrus fruits to the traditional Christmas Eve compote, I have always prepared it this way. Such ingredients perfectly break the taste of the drink, making it even tastier.

At first, the oldest people in the family were a bit resistant to this modernized version, but now even my grandmother says that my compote is the best.

  • 150 g dried apples,
  • 150 g dried pears,
  • 150 g dried plums,
  • 50 g dried cranberries,
  • 2 cinnamon sticks,
  • ½ teaspoon of cloves,
  • 1 star anise,
  • 1 small orange,
  • juice of ½ lemon,
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (or more, to taste),
  • 2 liters of water.

Put the rinsed dried fruit into the pot. Add cloves, cinnamon and anise. Pour cold water over it.

Boil water. Reduce the burner power. Cook over low heat, partially covered, for about 20-30 minutes (the fruit should soften but not fall apart).

Meanwhile, scrub the orange thoroughly and cut into slices. Add them to the pot a few minutes before the end of cooking the compote.

Season the compote with lemon juice and honey. Set aside for a few hours, preferably overnight.

Strain the compote. If you want, you can leave some fruit in it (orange slices will be decorative). Serve the rest of the fruit separately as a snack.
