When and how the first people reached Australia


The question of when humans first arrived in what is now Australia has long been a subject of scholarly debate. Many Aboriginal people believe they have lived on this land since time immemorial. However, until the introduction of the radiocarbon dating method discovered in 1946, many Western researchers assumed that the indigenous people of Australia had only arrived there shortly before contact with Europeans, which occurred 250 years ago.
