Buying things second hand is generally great. Not, however, when it comes to this household equipment. There are certain things that unfortunately need to be bought new. See what not to buy used.
Buying second-hand goods is a great way to get a little something “new”. For example, second-hand clothes are coming back into fashion, and it’s nice to know that you’re giving clothes a second chance. It is the same with household items, as it is possible that for someone, useless things that are no longer used will make someone else happy and breathe new life into their apartment. At the same time, however, you need to be careful, as there are certain things that you should not buy from someone you do not know. What are they like?
What not to buy used
It is first on the list children’s furniture. Maybe you came across a beautiful cot, table or chair that costs much less than current children’s furniture. Unfortunately, these things are not really worth buying used, because you don’t know when the crib was made, for example. Safety standards, especially for children’s furniture, are constantly changing, so it is quite possible that the given piece of furniture may not pass current safety regulations. And the year this furniture was made is unfortunately not easily ascertained. Another thing you should not buy second hand is baby safety products. Car seats, helmets, carriers, etc. They can be damaged, certain components could be missingand thus can become dangerous for the child. When you buy children’s equipment, you need to be familiar with the full history of the product and its previous use, which is difficult to find in second-hand stores.
The third thing is mattress. Unfortunately, you never know who used them before you and how. It is therefore possible that the mattress contains fleas, bed bugs or bacteria and allergens, which you would unknowingly bring home. This risk is simply not worth it. Similar to mattresses, it is the same with all upholstered furniture. A sofa, armchair, or even a cushion should not be bought second-hand, because you simply cannot see with the naked eye what might be hidden inside the foam.
Years non-stick cookware should not be bought used, but new. When this type of tableware gets scratched in some way original owner, to foodwhich will be prepared in it, chemicals may be released. You also need to be careful with electronics, because the quality of cables may be significantly lower than new products. Seven things that should never be bought secondhand are smart home devices, especially thermostats and security cameras. Unfortunately, you have to take into account that people are not all good, and that they could still be connected to the devices you buy second hand. It is also impossible to check if any parts have been accidentally replaced.
Toasters and cutting boards
and generally buy smaller appliances new and unused. They often have used ones worn cables, or they may be internally damaged, and this damage may not always be visible. Anyway, this is about fire risk. Cutting boards may surprise you, but they should also be bought new. Especially the wooden ones. Wood is a material that easily absorbs moistureso they can fit in any cracks multiply bacteria and fungi. So always be careful when buying these things and don’t buy them second hand from someone you don’t know.
