Bolo Príncipe is dethroning Bolo Rei on the Costa Vicentina

It’s not Bolo Rei, but it’s gaining more and more followers. It was born about a decade ago in the oldest bakery in Rogil, in Aljezur.

On the Costa Vicentina, there is a Christmas sweet that is competing with the traditional Bolo-rei. It’s called Bolo Príncipe, it was created in the village of Rogil, in Aljezur and became popular thanks to an ingredient that is a symbol of the region: the Lyra sweet potato.

It was created about a decade ago in “Pão do Rogil”, the oldest bakery in the locality, and the recipe is the team’s best kept treasure.

This year, “Pão do Rogil” wanted to add a chapter to the family book and created Bolo Princesa: a vegan version of Príncipe.

Around Christmas time, dozens – and sometimes hundreds – of orders leave this factory per week.

But princes do not reign alone. The list of favorites also includes bread and the famous sweet potato pastries, carob pastries and, more recently, acorn pastries.

The bakery has already won two Five Star awards and wants to make Bolo Príncipe a symbol of Costa Vicentina.
