A DNA analysis revealed that the Caucasian features of Guojiang, a blonde, blue-eyed Chinese girl, originate from a Russian great-grandfather
The parents of three-year-old Guojiang were initially perplexed by their daughter’s unusual appearance, and even questioned whether the hospital had given them the wrong baby at birth. A genetic analysis allowed the family to discover the reason: a Russian great-grandfather was to blame.
A three-year-old from Yancheng, in eastern China’s Jiangsu province, is mesmerizing the country with his remarkable Caucasian featuresdespite the parents being Chinese. The story has already received 120 million views on the country’s social networks.
When Guojiang was born in May 2022, the parents were initially intrigued by their daughter’s unusual appearance: blonde, with very round blue eyes. They even asked themselves if the hospital I wouldn’t have given them the wrong baby by mistake.
However, according to , several DNA tests confirmed that the girl, whose name means “jam”, is in fact the biological daughter of the housel.
When investigating the family genetic historythe parents of the girl, nicknamed Yang, discovered that Guojiang’s paternal great-grandfather was Russian. He had married a woman from Henan Province, in central China, and had lived in the country ever since; died in 1985.
Guojiang’s father points out that all previous births in the family had been boys. “The recessive genes inherited from my great-grandfatherwhich influence our appearance, do not appear to appear in men”, explained Yang.
Neither the girl’s father nor the other male relatives, including her grandfather, exhibit any visible trace of mixed ancestry.
At birth, Guojiang had a typical appearance of a Chinese babys. However, the differences began to become evident when he was about eight months old, at which point his eyes turned blue.
On the first anniversary, Caucasian features were even more pronounced: her hair became blond and curly, her eyelashes became longer and the blue of her eyes became more intense. “Some older family members and friends said that my daughter He looked a lot like his great-grandfather”, contou Yang.
Guojiang, who speaks Mandarin fluently and has been attending kindergarten since September, quickly became the subject of heated debate on social media in China, and arouses curiosity wherever she appears with her parents.
“When we took her to the street, people are curious and often ask Why does she look foreign. Sometimes we get tired of having to explain to so many strangers,” says Yang.
