Benjamin Netanyahu announces the transition to the second phase of the cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. Negotiations include international supervision and proposals for stabilization.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expects a “very soon” transition to the second phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He made this statement on Sunday at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who is visiting Israel. TASR writes about it according to the AFP agency and the Times of Israel portal.
- Prime Minister Netanyahu expects an early transition to the second phase of the ceasefire.
- He discussed ending the rule of the Hamas movement in Gaza.
- He plans to hold talks with President Trump about the future of the Gaza Strip.
- Ceasefire negotiations include international monitoring and stabilization forces.
- Netanyahu has repeatedly rejected the creation of a Palestinian state.
“We discussed how to end the rule of Hamas in Gaza… We have completed the first phase… And we expect to move very soon to the second phase, which is more demanding,” said Netanyahu, who plans to negotiate with US President Donald Trump in December to end the rule of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza. According to him, this is a necessary step to ensure a new future for the Gaza Strip.
Negotiations on the second phase of the ceasefire
Negotiations on the second phase of Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip are currently ongoing. As part of it, Israel is to withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip, the government there is to be taken over by a temporary transitional administration composed of Palestinian technocrats under the supervision of the international so-called Peace councils and international stabilization forces are supposed to be deployed there. After the end of the second phase, according to Netanyahu, it will also be necessary to “de-radicalize” Gaza, similar to Germany after World War II.
Netanyahu rejects the Palestinian state
The Israeli prime minister also once again rejected the creation of a Palestinian state. According to him, the goal of such a state would be the destruction of Israel. “They already had a state in Gaza, a de facto state, and that was used to try to destroy the only Jewish state,” Netanyahu said.
