The accident occurred on Friday night in Collonges, on the French-Swiss border, when the vehicle crashed and caught fire. The victims are two boys aged 16 and 18 and two girls aged 18.
“President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa offers his heartfelt condolences to the families of the four young Portuguese, residing in Fribourg, Switzerland, victims of a tragic road accident in France”, reads the page of the Presidency of the Republic.
He adds that the head of state “is monitoring the situation, in contact with the Secretariat of State for Portuguese Communities”.
According to French authorities, cited by the agency France-Presse (AFP), the accident happened on Friday night, when the car in which the four young people were traveling crashed.
The victims of the accident, which took place in Collonges, a municipality located on the border between France and Switzerland, are two boys, one aged 16 and the other aged 18, and two girls, both aged 18, according to the deputy attorney general of the French commune of Bourg-en-Bresse, Antoine Celle, speaking to AFP.
The accident happened at 10:30 pm local time (9:30 pm in Lisbon) on Friday and after the crash the vehicle crashed into something, which is not specified by the AFP, and caught fire.
