“We don’t debate opponents, we debate our government”, says PT president

PT president, Edinho Silva, said that the party “does not debate opponents”, but rather the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The statement, given after questioning about Flávio Bolsonaro’s pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic, was after a meeting of the PT National Directorate, in Brasília.

“We don’t debate opponents, we debate our government”, said Edinho when questioned by the press.

Last PT meeting of the year

This Saturday’s meeting (6) was the PT’s last of the year. At the meeting, the holding of an annual national event in memory of the coup acts of January 8, 2023, measures to combat violence against women and other factors of the national and international situation were discussed.

Another point discussed was the defense of the creation of the Ministry of Public Security. Currently, the role is occupied by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, led by Minister Ricardo Lewandowski.

Edinho said that “it is a consensus” in the PT to defend the creation of the department. “The importance of creating the Ministry of Public Security is a consensus in the party. It is the party’s position, it does not mean that it is the government’s position. (In the PT document) there will be the creation (of the ministry)”, he declared.
