Data are from Datafolha research; former president used soldering iron on electronic ankle bracelet
Survey released on Sunday (Dec 7, 2025) by Folha de S.Paulo shows that 54% of Brazilians think that the former president (PL) intended to escape by trying the electronic ankle bracelet. Another 33% responded that he had an outbreak, while 13% could not say.
The research was carried out from December 2nd to 4th, 2025 in 113 municipalities spread across Brazil. The survey interviewed 2,002 people aged 16 or over. The margin of error is 2 percentage points, plus or minus.
The following question was asked to the interviewees: “Former president Jair Bolsonaro tried to violate the electronic ankle bracelet. Bolsonaro said he damaged the electronic ankle bracelet in the midst of an outbreak due to the use of medication, while STF minister Alexandre de Moraes considered that the former president was planning an escape. In your opinion, did Bolsonaro have an outbreak and that’s why he damaged the electronic ankle bracelet or did he intend to escape?”
Here are the answers:
- Bolsonaro I intended to run away – 54%;
- Bolsonaro had an outbreak – 33%;
- don’t know – 13%.
Bolsonaro had it decreed after the ankle bracelet episode. He was taken to the Federal Police Superintendence in Brasília on November 22, 2025. He spent 27 years and 3 months in prison there after his case, on November 25, 2025.

He also said he was sleepy “chopped” and decided to work on the ankle bracelet with a soldering iron. “The deponent stated that he was ‘hallucinating’ that he had a bug in his anklet, and then tried to open the lid.”says the STF document.
