The Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) approved this Monday (8) a project that revokes the arrest of state deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (União Brasil), president of the House.
There were four votes in favor of Bacellar. As the decision was not unanimous, the project will be sent to the plenary and should be voted on this Monday afternoon.
Three deputies followed the vote of the case’s rapporteur, Rodrigo Amorim (União Brasil). Two other parliamentarians, one from the PT and one from the PSB, voted against Bacellar’s release. There was also a deputy who took a stand against the rapporteur’s proposal and presented a suggestion that the vote be held separately: one for the maintenance of the prison and another for the removal of the deputy from the presidency of the House.

The president of Alerj was arrested on the 3rd by the Federal Police. He is suspected of having leaked confidential information about a PF operation to TH Joias, who was also a state deputy in Rio and has been in prison since the beginning of September.
Bacellar would have called TH Joias on September 2, the eve of Operation Zargun, which resulted in his arrest. In the call, he would have warned him about the arrest warrants and instructed his colleague to destroy evidence.
The arrest order against Bacellar was issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, ADPF rapporteur for Favelas. According to Moraes, the PF argued that Bacellar “guided the person being investigated in the removal of objects from his residence”, indicating a direct involvement “in the investigation’s cover-up of the actions of the criminal prosecution bodies”.
