Businessman dies from a gunshot wound in Barra da Tijuca, Rio

Marcos Vinícius Portugal Santos was hit by 5 shots when he was returning from a party; victim’s son was injured

Businessman Marcos Vinícius Portugal Santos, aged 41, died this Monday (Dec 8, 2025) after being shot in Barra da Tijuca, in the west zone of Rio. He was hit by 5 shots and was admitted to Lourenço Jorge Hospital, but did not survive.

According to the Military Police, the attack took place on Avenida Ayrton Senna, when Marcos Vinícius, who is a partner in an aviation company in Curitiba, was returning from a party. The information is from

Two men on a motorcycle approached his moving vehicle. The person on the back pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the car. After the attack, the criminals fled the scene.

Marcos Vinícius was hit by 2 projectiles in the abdomen, 1 in the chest, 1 in the right arm and 1 in the chin. Also in the vehicle were the businessman’s 18-year-old son, who suffered a graze wound to his arm, and a 20-year-old girl, who was unharmed.

Authorities found that the businessman had 6 previous criminal records, related to theft, bodily harm, criminal misdemeanors and insults.

The case was initially registered at the 16th DP (Police Station), but was transferred to the DHC (Capital Homicide Police Station), which took over the investigations to identify and locate the perpetrators of the crime.
