Corinthians drew 1-1 with Juventude this Sunday afternoon (7), at Neo Química Arena, in the 38th round of Series A of the Brazilian Championship. This was Timão’s last test before clashes against Cruzeiro, valid for the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil.
With a team full of reserves, Timão reached their goal with José Martínez, in the first half, after a great play by Kayke. The visitors equalized in the final minutes of the match, with Negueba, taking advantage of Marcelo Hermes’ cross.
With equality and the combination of results in the round, Corinthians finished in 13th place, with 47 points. Juventude, already relegated, finished the tournament in penultimate position, with 35 points.
While the season for the team from Rio Grande do Sul is over, the São Paulo club is still competing in the Copa do Brasil. Timão will return to the field next Wednesday (10), against Cruzeiro, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Mineirão, for the first leg of the semifinal.
The game
The first half was marked by few emotions. Both teams found it difficult to build their game, with many passing errors and poorly rehearsed plays.
Timão’s individual brilliance prevailed for zero to come off the scoreboard. In the 23rd minute, Kayke made a good move on the left, beating Jadson, and served José Martínez, who hit hard from the edge of the area, to fill Jandrei’s net.
In the second stage, the scenario changed little. Corinthians, who had some starters in the second stage, had chances to expand, but they were not efficient.
Juventude took advantage and scored the equalizer with Negueba, who completed a precise cross from Negueba, without giving goalkeeper Kauê a chance.
