Despite sanctions: Fifa pressured European clubs to make payments to Russian clubs

Accordingly, the world football association FIFA urged European clubs to transfer outstanding payments to Russian clubs under the threat of transfer bans of up to 18 months. This involves teams from top international leagues such as England, Italy and the Netherlands, but also from Switzerland and Israel, which signed players from Russian clubs before Russia’s full invasion of Ukraine in 2022 – such as West Ham, Udinese, Atalanta Bergamo or FC Basel.
