Bahia ended the 2025 season, this Sunday (7), with a 2-0 defeat to Fluminense, at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, in a game valid for the last round of the Brazilian Championship. THE
Bahia scored 60 points in the Brasileirão – 17 wins, nine draws and 12 defeats. This was the team’s best campaign in the points-run era – a format that was implemented in 2003. This year’s performance surpassed that of 2024, when the club finished Series A in 8th place, with 53 points.
Despite the milestones achieved, the season ends with a mixed feeling of happiness and frustration. For the second year in a row, the team secured a place in the preliminary round of the Libertadores, however, for coach Rogério Ceni, there is a feeling of unfulfilled duty. The coach states that the goal was a direct place in the group stage of the continental competition.
“We, as a team, we did not achieve the goal we set. We see teams fighting against relegation, big teams fighting. It just shows that the Brazilian is difficult, competitive. The has a good team. We had opportunities in the first half, but they didn’t come in. Due to our mistake, they ended up scoring the goals. We need to reinforce ourselves. Now it’s time to stop and plan the 2026 season”, said Ceni.
“Today was a difficult game, the Fluminense team comes with confidence. In other games we had more opportunities to win. Today it was a balanced game that was decided by a mistake on our part. Unfortunately it happens. It wasn’t because of today that we didn’t qualify. There were other opportunities. One or two slip-ups at home and a campaign well below, in every sense, away. We could have scored more”, added the coach.
Despite the goal not being achieved, Ceni highlighted the positive points of the season and projected the year 2026.
“The good thing is the two titles, the regional and the state. Also the experience in the Pre-Libertadores, with the classification. In the Libertadores we didn’t manage to qualify. In the , we fell in a very bad game that we played. And in the Brazilian Championship we fought until the last opportunity. I think that, for these 90 minutes today, it could be a sweeter and more valuable ending. Today’s game, unfortunately, conditions a more negative evaluation. We will go back from the fifth of January to prepare. And it starts all over again in January. We have We want to find a way to return to the Libertadores group stage and remain firm in the Brazilian Championship”, said the coach.
