Meeting debates ways to combat online misogyny – 12/08/2025 – Panel

The fight against women will be part of the side program of the 10th Conference of States Parties to the Follow-up Mechanism of the Convention of Belém do Pará, promoted by the Ministry of Women.

The event “Misogina Online: Paths to Coping” takes place this Tuesday (9) and Wednesday (10), in Fortaleza, organized by the NGO Olabi, in partnership with the Digital Policies Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic and support from the United Kingdom Government and the Elas Fund.

Public managers, researchers and leaders from different sectors will debate the impacts of online gender-based violence on democracy, citizenship and human rights, in addition to proposing measures for legislation, guidelines and public policies.

The programming includes topics such as gender-based violence as a business model, the platformization of misogyny and ECA Digital from a gender perspective, especially the adultization of children and girls. There will also be discussion about the legal confrontation of hate speech.

There will be tables dedicated to regional exchange between Mercosur countries and the sharing of practices.

Among the confirmed names are Silvana Bahia (Olabi), Bianca Kremer (CGI.br), Nina Santos (SPDIGI/Secom/PR), Mariana Valente (lawyer and author of the book Misoginia na internet), Horrara Moreira (Instituto Curumim Erê), Janara Sousa (Ministry of Women), Luciana Belin (NetLab/UFRJ), Fabiana Pinto (Mulheres Negras Decidem), Livia Rocha (Girl Up) and Mariana Ochs (Educamídia).

“Bringing together experts who understand these dimensions, from network architecture to democratic implications, is essential to advance solutions that are truly collective and sustainable,” says Gabriela Agustini, co-executive director of Olabi.
