News caused a seismic shock in the entertainment industry last Friday by making the acquisition of the studio and the streaming business official for US$82.7 billion, including debt
Following the announcement that it had reached a deal to acquire , the streaming giant sent an email to its subscribers with the aim of assuring them that the platform will not be changing for the time being. The news caused a seismic shock in the entertainment industry last Friday, 5th, when it made official the acquisition of the studio and Warner’s streaming business for a value of US$ 82.7 billion, including debts.
Between this Saturday and Sunday (the 6th and 7th), subscribers received the email with the title: “Netflix welcomes Warner Bros.”. The letter communicates the purchase and says that the rights to franchises such as Harry Potter and Game of Thrones now belong to the company, but continue to be streamed separately for now.
“For now, nothing will change. Our streaming services will continue to operate separately. There are still some steps for the transition to be completed, including regulatory and shareholder approvals. As soon as there is news, we will release new information”, says the stream. The email also leads to a question and answer center about the agreement.
Netflix closed 2024 with more than 300 million subscribers. The transaction has raised concerns among industry entities and, for analysts, has the potential to redefine Hollywood and cinemas.
