PP in Paraná vetoes Sergio Moro for 2026 election – 12/08/2025 – Power

The PP (Progressistas) directory decided this Monday (8) that it will not approve the candidacy of the senator (União Brasil) for state government in 2026.

The deliberation was unanimous and the national president of the party, senator (PI), stated that he will not interfere. The position in Paraná creates an impasse with Moro’s party, União Brasil. At the national level, PP and União Brasil have already gone to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to ask for the approval of a federation, the União Progressista.

“There was an expectation that we could reach an understanding with União Brasil here in Paraná, but this has not happened over these seven months, since the federation was announced. He [Moro] he had the opportunity to talk to everyone and was unable to gain membership here in the ranks of the Progressives. It is the result of months of dialogue. But unfortunately the dialogue did not prosper”, said federal deputy Ricardo Barros (PP) in an interview.

In Paraná, the PP is part of the support base for governor Ratinho Junior, from the PSD, who is expected to launch his own name for the state government next year.

“To forward the registration of a ticket, the signature of President Ciro Nogueira and President Antonio Rueda is necessary, and, at the moment, our federation does not have a consensus to register a majority ticket”, said Barros.

For the proportional dispute, the PP from Paraná wants to at least re-elect the current bench, made up of 5 federal deputies and 7 state deputies.

The deputy also suggested that Moro should look for another party, if he maintains his plans to run for the Iguaçu Palace.

“I think that senator Sergio Moro will be a candidate anyway. He is in the middle of his term as senator. He will run anyway and will look for a party that guarantees him the party. Here in the federation, he will not be able to register his candidacy due to the decision of the state directory of Paraná, which will be supported by senator Ciro, as he stated”, continued Barros.

Asked if Paraná’s decision poses a risk to the federation, Ciro Nogueira stated that “I hope not”. “My relationship with President Rueda is the best possible. It is a situation that we will have to face with a lot of dialogue. Placing national interests above anything else,” he said.

He repeated that he will respect the party’s local decision. “Senator Moro is a big name, he is leading the polls, but I will never be against the decision of the Paraná directory,” said Nogueira. “I usually say that Ricardo leads the party with me at a national level, imagine in Paraná”, he continued.
