The Progressistas (PP) of Paraná confirmed a unanimous deliberation that will not approve the candidacy of senator Sérgio Moro (União Brasil) for the state government in 2026, with the approval of the party’s national president, Ciro Nogueira. The veto exposes a crisis in the recently formed União Progressista federation, which brings together PP and União Brasil.

Ciro Nogueira endorsed the position of the PP state directory, which in Paraná is led by the Barros family. “I will never be against the decision of the Paraná directory”, stated the national president of the party. The situation in Paraná was described by him as a point of conflict that has not yet been resolved: “He is the only one who is still having this discussion in the federation.”

Ricardo Barros (PP), federal deputy and leader of the party in the state, explained the context of the decision, stating that Moro’s majority ticket had become unviable. “If there is no consensus, there is no candidacy,” said Ciro Nogueira, citing the rule that requires the agreement of the federation’s national leaders to register a ticket. The PP state directory seeks to focus on the proportional ticket and support the group of current governor Ratinho Júnior (PSD), which should launch its own name.

Despite the local crisis, Ciro Nogueira expressed optimism about maintaining the federation at national level. “It is a situation that we will have to face with a lot of dialogue. Placing national interests above anything else”, he declared, demonstrating that the focus is to avoid breaking the alliance that groups center and right-wing parties.
