Real Madrid suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat and ended up with nine players on the field against Celta de Vigo this Sunday (7), at the Bernabéu Stadium, in the 15th round of LaLiga. Williet Swedberg scored twice to leave the hosts four points behind leaders Barcelona.
Sweden’s Swedberg, who had just come on, cleverly turned in Bryan Zaragoza’s cross to beat Thibaut Courtois eight minutes into the second half to put Celta ahead. In stoppage time, three minutes after regulation time, he dribbled past the goalkeeper and sealed the three points for the Galician team.
Real’s situation worsened with the expulsion of Fran García in the 19th minute of the second half, after receiving two yellow cards in just 60 seconds. Even so, the Merengue team surrounded the opponent’s goal in the last 20 minutes, while Celta closed down in defense to maintain the advantage.
Defender Álvaro Carreras, from the home team, was also sent off after receiving two yellow cards, the second in stoppage time, when the home team’s frustration reached its limit.
It was only the second clean sheet in 15 matches for Celta, whose goalkeeper Ionut Radu made a first-half save from a Jude Bellingham header and stopped a Kylian Mbappé free-kick in the closing stages.
O remains with 36 points from 16 games, while Celta celebrated their first victory at the Bernabéu in 19 years, reaching 19 points.
Celta moved up to 10th place, while the defeat ended Real’s 100% record at home this season after six consecutive victories. Xabi Alonso’s side have won just one of their last five LaLiga games as they face Manchester City in midweek in the Champions League.
