Rescue in Gondomar: municipality evaluates accident and admits the possibility of a fine

The family in the jeep that got stuck in the middle of the Ferreira River in S. Pedro da Cova, in Gondomar, has already been discharged. They had been taken to Hospital de S. João, in Porto, as a precaution. The rescue operation was complex and expensive. To SIC, the municipality confirms that it is evaluating the accident and does not rule out the possibility of a fine.

A jeep with five passengers, including three children, was stuck in a river in Gondomar, yesterday afternoon. The occupants were all rescued and transported to the hospital from where they have since left. The alert was given shortly after 6pm on Sunday.

QWhen they arrived at the place, the firefighters of São Pedro da Cova, Gondomar, and the GNR found a Jeep partially submerged in the Ferreira River, with five people inside, including 3 children

The difficult-to-access area and strong currents made operations difficult. The vehicle was apparently stuck when trying to cross the watercourse, a common route for all-terrain vehicles, but which residents of the area recognize as being dangerous

Both children aged 10, 14 and 16 and the couple were safely removed and transported to the Hospital de São João, from where they left

The rescue operation lasted more than 2 hours. In Gondomar, negligent operations can be charged above 4 thousand euros. To SIC, the municipality confirms that it is evaluating the accident and does not rule out the possibility of a fine.
