Russian drone attacks hit a residential building in the Sumy region: At least seven people are reported injured

At least seven people were injured in a Russian drone attack that hit a residential building in the town of Ochtyrka in northeastern Ukraine, Sumy Oblast, said Governor Oleh Hryhorov on Monday. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.

  • A Russian drone attack hit a residential building in the Ukrainian city of Ochtyrka.
  • At least seven people were injured, two were hospitalized.
  • The building in the Suma region suffered extensive damage.
  • Some residents took refuge in the basement after being warned of the attack.
  • The conflicting parties deny attacks on civilians, the situation remains complex.

The border region of Sumy has faced almost daily shelling and drone attacks since February 2022, when Moscow started the war in Ukraine. The local governor said in a post on the Telegram platform that paramedics took the injured to the hospital and two of them were hospitalized. Doctors treated the remaining persons and released them to home treatment.

The multi-story building sustained extensive damage, Hryhorov said. According to him, some residents managed to get into the basement after being warned of an air raid, the others were rescued from the upper floors by rescue services.

Reuters could not independently verify this report and Moscow did not immediately comment on the attack. Both sides of the conflict deny attacks on civilians, despite the fact that thousands of people – mostly Ukrainians – have already died in the war.
