The judge of the Michalovce District Court found a 64-year-old woman from the village of Pavlovce nad Uhom guilty of animal cruelty. As TASR was informed by the spokesperson of the Presidium of the Police Force, Lea Vilhanová, she received a 12-month prison sentence suspended for a probationary period of 18 months.
The deed took place in the spring of 2024, when a woman killed a puppy she had previously found in the village during a so-called ritual act broadcast live via a social network. “The investigation showed that she caused the animal serious suffering, namely undue pain, suffering and subsequent death, in violation of the Veterinary Care Act,” said the spokeswoman.
In this context, the police points out that any unjustified action leading to the injury or death of an animal is an illegal action within the meaning of the Veterinary Care Act. “At the same time, the police force calls on citizens not to hesitate to immediately contact the police or the competent authorities of the veterinary administration in case of suspicion of animal cruelty. added Vilhanová.
