The senator (PL-RJ) said in an interview with TV Record that the price for giving up being a candidate for president in 2026 is having his father, the former president (PL), “free, at the polls”. Flávio stated, according to TV Record, in the interview shown this Sunday (7), that the “price is justice with almost 60 million Brazilians who were kidnapped, are in captivity, at this moment, together with Jair Messias Bolsonaro”. The PL senator from Rio said that the choice of his name as a pre-candidate for president is “very conscious” and “there is no way back” within the current scenario of the imprisoned and ineligible father.

“Obviously there is no going back. My pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic is very conscious”, he declared. Earlier, Flávio stated that he had “a price” for withdrawing his candidacy and that amnesty for those convicted of the January 8, 2023 attacks was part of the negotiation. The PL senator, however, said at the time that it was not just the amnesty, without disclosing any other possible demands.

Flávio revealed the new condition for withdrawing his candidacy – “Bolsonaro free and at the polls” – when asked if the amnesty would be enough to give up. The senator rejected the possibility of renouncing his pre-candidacy in favor of another ticket at this time. “The name Flávio Bolsonaro is in place and will not go away”, he declared. Jair Bolsonaro is serving a sentence after being sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for an attempted coup d’état.
