A classic that works
Potatoes, eggs, milk and butter, that’s all you need. The secret of a great dumpling lies in carefully mashing the potatoes, a balanced ratio of ingredients and proper baking. The surface will remain golden and slightly crispy, while the pudding inside will hold its shape beautifully. A little grated cheese or can enhance the taste even more.
“When baking a potato dumpling, the key is to let the mixture rest for a while before putting it in the oven, so that all the flavors come together. Thanks to this, the dumpling remains juicy and at the same time holds its shape beautifully,” advises chef David Šlapák.
Potato pudding recipe
Raw materials:
- 1 kg brambor
- 2-3 eggs
- 100 ml of milk
- 50 g of softened butter
- salt and pepper to taste
- a pinch of nutmeg
- grated cheese for sprinkling
Procedure:
Peel the potatoes and boil until soft. Then mash them to a smooth paste. Add eggs, milk, butter, salt, pepper and nutmeg and mix until smooth. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and sprinkle the top with cheese, if desired. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for approximately 30-40 minutes until the pudding is golden. Serve warm as a main course or as a hearty side dish.
