Trump: Zelensky hasn’t read the US proposal on Ukraine

“He’s not ready to sign”

Volodymyr Zelensky is not ready to sign the US peace proposal aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, Donald Trump said, among others, at the end of three days of talks between Washington and Kiev in Florida.

“I’m a little disappointed”

“I am a little disappointed that President Zelensky has not yet read the proposal. His associates love her, but he doesn’t,” Trump told reporters Sunday night.

Days of negotiations between US and Ukrainian officials ended on Saturday with no apparent progress, with Zelensky calling the talks “constructive, although not easy”.

“Russia would prefer all of Ukraine”

“This serves, you know, I think Russia would rather take the whole country,” but “I’m not sure it serves Zelensky,” Donald Trump added.

Since the US plan was presented three weeks ago, there have been rounds of talks with the Ukrainians in Geneva and Florida to modify the text to meet more of Kiev’s demands.

Witkov and Kushner in Moscow

The text was presented to Mr Putin on Tuesday when US envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president’s son-in-law and adviser visited Moscow but failed to make any apparent progress.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not publicly expressed his approval of the White House plan and last week said some elements of Trump’s proposal were unworkable.

Proposal favorable to Moscow

Few details have been released about the modified plan. The original version of the text was considered by both Kiev and its European allies to be too favorable to Moscow.

The talks are dead ends

The American design has undergone several modifications since it was first presented in November. Despite continued efforts by Trump and his team to push for a deal, progress in peace talks has been slow, with disagreements over security guarantees for Kiev and the status of territory held by Russia remaining unresolved.
